Uncoverd Denise Milani

life and literature, as Sergio Pitol

"When I was your age, expected to follow a path similar to my nephew had chosen. Like him, the faculty had studied the specialty of English, with a secret ambition to continue studying literature or perhaps try your hand at journalism, but I lacked the courage to do some of both. Life got in the way-two years in the military, work, marriage, family responsibilities, need to earn more money, all that shit that leaves us stuck where we do not have the guts to fight for what we want, but I never lost interest in books. Reading was my escape, my relief and my consolation, my stimulant of choice: reading for pleasure, for the beautiful stillness that surrounds you when you ring in your head the words of an author. "

Paul Auster, Brooklyn Follies . p. 21.
